HISTORY AND INTERPRETATION
The gesture before the throw.
The Discobolus is one of the most recognisable images of classical sculpture: the body is captured in the instant before the throw, when balance, strength and control coexist in a perfectly suspended tension. CARMIDE begins with this archetype and preserves its movement as the central element.
The Gold intervention focuses attention on the disc. The contrast between the bone-white figure, dark-gold base and gold element introduces a stronger, more contemporary presence without compromising the clarity of the pose.
The contemporary reinterpretation also comes through a cleaner overall treatment: more essential lines, a sharper visual presence and a finish designed to sit naturally in domestic or professional interiors. The result is a classical figure that once again enters into dialogue with the present.
THE MARK OF THE PROCESS
Every work carries the trace of its process.
CARMIDE creates its sculptures through an additive process, building the form progressively in layers. This technique can leave subtle process lines on the surface: they are not hidden, because they reveal how the work takes shape and become a recognisable feature of it.
Unlike an object made from a mould, each piece is created individually. Minute variations in material deposition and finishing make every sculpture slightly different from the others: a small uniqueness that preserves the tangible trace of the process by which it was made.
